ENERGY

The energy of a Frenchton depends on it’s conformation, and whether it more closerly leans toward Frenchie genes or toward Boston genes. Overall, a Frenchton WILL have more play drive and energy than French Bulldogs. Some Frenchtons may want to run and play all day, while others may be able to go on a walk and come home and snooze.

If you are looking for specific traits, talk to your breeder! They can help you decide which pup will best fit your needs!

PERSONALITY

Frenchtons are the perfect blend of Boston Terrier and French Bullog . . . they are both excpetionally intelligent AND eager to please!

Their increase in energy from the Frenchie means they can run, play and BE A PART of your family. They LOVE hanging with everyone!

Frenchtons tend to pick one person as “their human”. This person is top and gives the orders in their life (they may ignore anyone else), and they will follow them everywhere. They want to be with them 24/7. They will seek out attention from others however, if their main person is not available.

They love babies and other pets, however males may feel hostile toward other male dogs, and care must be taken to properly train and socialize them at the right age.

They love water, mud and running . . . but not too far . . . they don’t want to risk losing their human!

They love toys and wrestling. Some of them LOVE snuggles (others prefer play as their love language).

They THRIVE on routine it makes them happy. They love knowing what to expect and will KEEP you on routine should you be late!

TRAINABILITY

Thanks to their bit of Boston blood, Frenchtons are VERY easy to train!

The Frenchie blood gives them enough “pause” to hear/see a command while the Boston blood gives them the “desire to please”. They don’t need to feel a command makes “sense” to be able to follow it. If the owner tells them to do something, they hold full trust that it must be worth doing!

Frenchtons are easy to potty train, and their desire for routine helps too! We trained ours with a bell. They then, trained the cats!

Frenchtons are quit-witted and can catch the slightest hand movement or sound of a command.

They are also exceptionally sensetive, so take care to ensure they are being rewarded with even the  slightest ‘try”. Praise, pets and toys are great “rewards”. The more positive you keep your training, the better your dog will listen.

Frenchtons are easy to train to stay out of certain rooms, and learn property borders. They also do well on “off-leash walks” and come when called.

ENERGY

Due to extreme breeding recently, much of the energy and play of the French Bulldog has been bred out of it.

While they are eager, their energy is limited to brief romps around the house and maybe a casual walk down the block and back.

Due to extremely short faces and short, stocky legs, they simply are not built to be able to handle energy, and while they may TRY to unleash more energy, care must be taken to prevent them from over doing themselves. Their joints cannot handle much strain.

This makes them a great couch pet, or office ornament.

PERSONALITY

Frenchies are smart and stubborn.

Their breeding over the years has resulted in not only a stockier, more extreme dog, but also a lazier one. This means they see the world as waiting on them hand and foot.

The love nothing more than being spoiled . . . don’t even THINK about being late with their dinner!

They have happy, eager dispositions and know what they want out of life . . . so don’t get in their way. They tend to get along with other pets and people, so long as they don’t try to steal attention away making them a not so good choice with small children).

They prefer people over other dogs.

They can be overly sensitive, and need extra care with discipline.

TRAINABILITY

Due both to their extreme figures AND their stubbornness and intelligence, Frenchies can be difficult to train.

If they don’t see any valid reason for doing what you ask, they simply WON’T. This can make potty training a nightmare.

As they are very sensitive to discipline, it can be hard to find the right balance between “good” behavior and “bad” behavior.

Lack of energy also means lack of desire to learn, since this also takes energy, and they’d much rather use that energy getting made at you for a late breakfast . . .
